La categoria speciale Best New Generation, dedicata agli artisti emergenti, è votabile solo tramite il tuo Windows Live Messenger. Durante l'evento MTV assegnerà inoltre tre premi speciali: MTV First Lady, MTV Man Of The Year e MTV Best Band.
